Cool mesic streambanks and limestone bluffs.

Species Description:
Shrub.

Diagnostic Characteristics:
Evergreen shrub with needle-shaped leaves; twigs are green, the needles flat, green on the underside, and the bases decurrent on the stem; the seeds not in cones but surrounded by a red fleshy aril.

Management:
Disturbance such as ATV trails, timber removal or any activity that results in increased erosion and weed invasion will be detrimental. Timber removal would be detrimental.
