Diagnostic Characteristics: S. puberula has leaves chiefly basal with the larger basal leaves persisting through the flowering period. The flower heads are not secund (on one side) of the infloresence axis. Leaves, which are numerous and reduced upwards on the stem, and stems finely pubescent, phyllaries very narrow (0.75 mm)and tapering.

Management: Avoid changes in moisture/hydrologic conditions at the site. Changes could result from overstory removal, stream/wetland alteration or vegetation removal that would result in increased erosion.
