Diagnostic Characteristics:
This sedge has white fruit (achenes) that have a rough surface texture. There are 3 buldges at the base of the achene (tubercles) that distinguish this species from S. pauciflora. Unfortunately, these are sometimes divided into two lobes, making this identification very difficult.

Management:
The habitat for this species is especially sensitive to changes in hydrology and not likely to withstand much alteration. Grazing or browsing pressure, vegetation removal, hydrologic changes (i.e. stream alterations road construction) would be detrimental.
