Habitat:
Calcareous waters of lower gradient streams, lakes, and ponds.

Species Description:
Aquatic perennial herb.

Phenology:
Flowering Period: May-September

Diagnostic Characteristics:
An aquatic species with the submersed leaves 50 mm wide which is large for this group of plants. The leaves are flat, with 7-19 veins and have petioles shorter than the blades and the floating leaves are ovate to oblong with abruptly pointed tip.

Management:
Changes in hydrologic conditions would likely be detrimental. Changes could result from overstory removal, stream/wetland alteration or vegetation removal that would result in increased erosion or deterioration of water quality.

Global Range:
Ranges from Quebec to British Columbia south to southern California, Utah, New Mexico, and Texas.
