Diagnostic Characteristics: Podostemum ceratophyllum is similar looking to red algae in that it appears as a threadlike mass attached to rocks beneath the water. It has more structure than algae however, and produces flowers in leaf axils and a ribbed capsule. Leaves are alternate and forked into linear flat segments. It has a reddish cast to the foliage.

Management: Avoid changes in moisture/hydrologic conditions at the site. Changes could result from overstory removal, stream/wetland alteration or vegetation removal that would result in increased erosion.
