Sandstone and limestone bluffs and riverbanks.

Species Description:
Shrub.

Phenology:
Flowering Period: Early May to late June.

Diagnostic Characteristics:
Flowers five or more in a raceme; bark of the current season gray, not exfoliating on previous seasons twigs. The leaves are glabrous above and usually soft hairy beneath.

Management:
Timber removal would be detrimental. Exotic pest plants are a threat to this species and should be removed. Avoid creating access to the site through trail or road construction.
