Habitat: Streambanks and springy or boggy soil, chiefly in the mountains (Gleason & Cronquist 1991); bogs, wet woods, rocky banks (Fernald 1970).

Species Description: Perennial herb.

Diagnostic Characteristics: Leaves of plants in this genus are long-petiolate in a basal rosette and are palmately veined. The blades of this species are longer than wide, and obtuse or subcordate at the base. They are plants of springs and bogs.

Management: The habitat for this species is especially sensitive to changes in hydrology and not likely to withstand much alteration. Grazing or browsing pressure, vegetation removal, hydrologic changes (i.e. stream alterations road construction) would be detrimental.
