Habitat:
Rocky subxeric mesophytic forest.

Species Description:
Perennial shrub.

Phenology:
Flowering Period: Early May to late May.

Diagnostic Characteristics:
This is a colonial glabrous (neither hairs or glands) shrub that is 0.5-1.5 m tall. Leaves are opposite, generally lance-ovate in shape, acute to acuminate tip and glacous underneath. Sexual reproduction seems to be rare but when present are greenish axillary flowers. It is found in dry woods.

Management:
Timber removal would be detrimental. Exotic pest plants are a threat to this species and should be removed. Avoid creating access to the site through trail or road construction.
