Diagnostic Characteristics: Myriophyllum heterophyllum is an aquatic plant that is mostly submerged. The emergent leaves are 2 cm or less, sessile or nearly so. The upper flower are staminate and these have bracts that are serrate (toothy) and longer than the flowers.

Management: Avoid changes in moisture/hydrologic conditions at the site. Changes could result from overstory removal, stream/wetland alteration or vegetation removal that would result in increased erosion.
