Diagnostic Characteristics: Similar to the more common M. frondosa but internodes are hid by overlapping leaf sheaths and the blades are grayish-green and staffish. The ligule is short (0.2-0.6). It is found in prairie type habitats.

Management: Disturbance such as ATV trails, timber removal or any activity that results in increased erosion and weed invasion will be detrimental.
