Habitat:
Mucky shores, ditches, sloughs,

Species Description:
Perennial aquatic herb.

Phenology:
Flowering Period: Early May to late August.

Diagnostic Characteristics:
Species in this genus have generally orbicular shaped leaves on an elongate petiole, in this species the petiole is up to 25 cm long. These plants are aquatic and usually found floating in lakes and ponds. The flowering stalk is shorter than the leaves, about half the length of the petioles.

Management:
The habitat for this species is especially sensitive to changes in hydrology and not likely to withstand much alteration. Grazing or browsing pressure, vegetation removal, hydrologic changes (i.e. stream alterations road construction) would be detrimental.
