Habitat:
Bogs, streamsides and other moist places.

Species Description:
Perennial herb.

Phenology:
Flowering Period: Early August to late September.

Diagnostic Characteristics:
Heads large (8-12 mm high and 25 mm across) and forming a corymbiform infloresence or solitary; rays violet; mid-stem leaves largest (to 14 cm long and 5 cm wide), coarsely serrate, veiny and pubescent below.

Management:
Avoid changes in moisture/hydrologic conditions at the site. Changes could result from overstory removal, stream/wetland alteration or impacts due to erosion. Disturbance such as ATV trails, timber removal or any activity that results in increased erosion and weed invasion will be detrimental. Exotic pest plants are a threat to this species and should be removed. Avoid creating access to the site through trail or road construction.
