Habitat:
Streambanks, open wet areas and marshes.

Species Description:
Perennial herb.

Phenology:
Flowering Period: Early June to late October.

Diagnostic Characteristics:
Eleocharis flavescens, bright green spikerush, has leaf shead with loos scarious tips. The spikelets are small, 2-7 mm and have only a few flowers and with scales (<20). The achenes are blackish (when mature).

Management:
Avoid changes in moisture/hydrologic conditions at the site. Changes could result from overstory removal, stream/wetland alteration or impacts due to erosion.

Global Range:
E. olivacea occurs along the Atlantic Coastal Plain from Nova Scotia south to Florida. It occurs locally inland from Maine west to Minnesota, south to Pennsylvania, Ohio and Illinois.
