Habitat:
Acidic, organic-rich bogs, swamps, less frequently in moist rocky ravines and rich forests WEAKLEY 1998).

Species Description:
Perennial fern.

Diagnostic Characteristics:
The pinnule at the base of the lowest pinnae on the frond are disproportionatly longer than the other pinnules.

Management:
Grazing or browsing pressure, vegetation removal, hydrologic changes (i.e. stream alterations road construction) would be detrimental. Exotic pest plants are a threat to this species and should be removed. Avoid creating access to the site through trail or road construction.
