Habitat:
Shores, meadows, fields and thickets, open pine woodlands, openings on sandstone ridge tops.

Species Description:
Perennial herb.

Phenology:
Flowering Period: Early April to late September.

Diagnostic Characteristics:
The blades of Dichanehlium boreale are thin and erect and have cilia around the base. Spikelets are pubescent and around 2 mm in length. The species occurs in dry to open woods.

Management:
Grazing or browsing pressure, vegetation removal, hydrologic changes (i.e. stream alterations road construction) would be detrimental. Exotic pest plants are a threat to this species and should be removed.
