Wet woods, swamps, and slough margins.

Species Description:
Perennial vine.

Phenology:
Flowering Period: Early May to late August.

Diagnostic Characteristics:
Sepals (which appear to be petals) are thick, 3-5 cm long and the margins above the middle are thin and crisped (irregular). The leaves are pinnate with 2-4 pairs and the lower leaflets larger than the others.

Management:
Changes in moisture/hydrologic conditions could be detrimental to this species. Changes could result from overstory removal, stream/wetland alteration or impacts due to erosion. Exotic pest plants are a threat to this species.
