Habitat:
Wet woods, swamps, and slough margins.

Species Description:
Perennial vining herb.

Phenology:
Flowering Period: Early May to late August.

Diagnostic Characteristics:
Climbing vine; sepals (which appear to be petals) are thick, 3-5 cm long and the margins above the middle thin and crisped (irregular). Plants occurring in swamps. The leaves are pinnate with 2-4 pairs and the lower leaflets larger than the others.

Management:
Avoid changes in moisture/hydrologic conditions at the site. Changes could result from overstory removal, stream/wetland alteration or impacts due to erosion. Exotic pest plants are a threat to this species. Avoid creating access to the site through trail or road construction.
