Habitat:
Rich woods and shaded rocks and in KY on high sandy terraces in mesic woods.

Species Description:
Perennial herb. Stoloniferous, mat forming.

Phenology:
Flowering Period: Mid March to mid June.

Diagnostic Characteristics:
Opposite leaved perennial with glandular and villous stems. Leaves are ovate, hairy and with long winged petioles and crenate margins. The heads are radiate and yellow with a chaffy receptacle and flat achenes.

Management:
Avoid changes in moisture/hydrologic conditions at the site. Changes could result from overstory removal, stream/wetland alteration or impacts due to erosion. Disturbance of surrounding areas such as ATV trails, timber removal or any activity that results in increased erosion and weed invasion will be detrimental. Exotic pest plants are a threat to this species. Avoid creating access to the site through trail or road construction.
