Diagnostic Characteristics: Southern shagbark hickory has slender glabrous twigs and leaves are mostly glabrous as well. The bark is shaggy. The fruit is < 3.5 in length and the husk is thick.

Management: Timber removal would be detrimental.Disturbance such as ATV trails, timber removal or any activity that results in increased erosion and weed invasion will be detrimental.
