Habitat:
Thickets and rich soils in subacid conditions (Gleason & Cronquist 1991).

Species Description:
Perennial herb.

Phenology:
Flowering Period: Early June to late August.

Diagnostic Characteristics:
This species of grapefern is distinguished from the other species by the shape and size of the blade. The sterile blades are small, less than 7 cm in length and the blade is not very dissected with usually 10 or fewer pinnae. The fertile stalk is 1-4 cm long.

Management:
Avoid changes in moisture conditions at the site. These could result from overstory removal or changes in hydrology.
