Developed by the Office of Kentucky Nature Preserves, this database provides information on plants (currently just rare plants) and all natural communities currently known for Kentucky. OKNP designates Endangered and Threatened plant species for Kentucky, is the Section 6 cooperator for plants listed as Endangered or Threatened by the U.S. Endangered Species Act, maintains a list of plants that grow naturally in the wild in Kentucky along with their conservation ranks as a member of the NatureServe Network, and maintains a classification of the natural communities for Kentucky. To fulfill these and other statutory obligations, OKNP maintains the Kentucky Natural Heritage Database with information on species and ecosystems along with a geodatabase of their locations and viability using the most accurate, updated, and available scientific data and knowledge. The Kentucky Natural Heritage Database is the source of information presented here. All information is subject to change as understanding grows. Natural Community range maps are accurate. The Natural community search functions for county and natural regions are based only off occurrences in the natural heritage database and may not be fully representative.
