Habitat:
Woods, sandy riverbanks and hummocks.

Species Description:
Shrub-tree.

Phenology:
Flowering Period: April-May.

Diagnostic Characteristics:
Flowers with 5 sepals and petals, the lower half of the calyx adherent to the ovary; flowering racemes with 5 flowers, to 8 cm long; fruit is not winged; leaves broadly elliptic to orbicular, 8- 15 cm long by 3-9 cm wide, and usually densely stellate (star-shaped) pubescent below.

Management:
Timber removal would be detrimental. Disturbance such as ATV trails, timber removal or any activity that results in increased erosion and weed invasion will be detrimental.
