OPEN OAK WOODS AND CLEARINGS.

Species Description:
Tall shrub or small tree.

Phenology:
Flowering Period: April-May.

Diagnostic Characteristics:
This crabapple is distinctive in having densely pubescent leaves and hypanthium. The fruit are less thatn 3.5 cm thick and are often thorny.

Management:
May tolerate some timber removal if done without excessive soil disturbance (disking/chopping) and if immediate vicinity of plant is protected from debris and direct cutting etc.
