Perennial herb

Diagnostic Characteristics:
Zigzag iris is distinguished from other blue iris species by its short flowering stems, which are shorter than the leaves (to 35 cm) and often hidden among the leaves. Also the ovary and capsule are 6-angled (Jones 2005).

Management:
Changes in wetland hydrology or disturbance, parituclarly along the shoreline, would likely be detrimental to this species. Methods of herbicide application should be carefully reviewed for potential impacts.
